NAMM Show 2011

The other guitarist in my band, Dan, managed to get us passes to the 2011 NAMM show, and for free no less. There was a ton of equipment being demoed, and a good selection of performances. These pictures do a good job capturing the atmosphere of the show, but they depict way less than one percent of the total content. This show is huge.

Palm trees, clear skies, and snow-covered mountains as we were walking in. The whole scene Couldn’t fit in a camera frame. This guy was giving a demo as we walked in. I’m not sure who it is. There were a ton of accessories on show. You could take in an average guitar and come out with something totally customized These are custom fret board inlays. There was also a wide variety of instruments. This guy is playing a hammered dulcimer.

And this guy is playing the didg. That thing sounds sweet. The Moollom company makes effects from the ground up. Everything from circuit design and construction to case etching. I think this one speaks for itself. Check out the strings on those guitars on the rack in the background. I like the bridge design on this guitar; especially the holes where the strings come out of the body.

From the same company, this is the bridge of a twelve string. The neck is nice and narrow. Mark Tremonti’s (from Creed) signature PRS. This acoustic is made entirely out of carbon fiber (except the strings) so it is durable and humidity proof. Here is a close up. They had another demo with these guitars under a waterfall. This guy sounded exactly like Tommy Shaw, and looks similar too. But I don’t think it really was him.

This demo was cool too. They are suspending the kick mic inside the bass drum. Joel Kosche from collective Soul using the E-Bow. That thing is awesome. Here we are together. The darn droop-lid strikes again. Live performance by the Christian Band Gungor. I had never heard of them, but they were awesome.
