A hill station, the South, and the Backwaters

After leaving Delhi, we took a series of trains, buses, and cars to see an observatory where Aditya used to work, the very southern tip of India, and the surrounding areas of both. I saw all the railway classes except the super rich-boy nicest one, and got to take one of the wildest bus ides of my life. The city of Kodia Kanal is 2.4km up into the mountains, and the ride back down caused two different people to puke in / out of the bus. In the southern tip town of Kanyakumari I got in my third ocean of the summer. And then finally, we took a boat tour of “Venice of the east”.

Agra and Delhi

After leaving Mumbai, I had my first experience on the Indian Railways. The trains were nice, and we traveled in the three tier AC class which means the coach is air conditioned, and there is a place to sleep (3 bunks high). We made it into Agra, and was the two main attractions, the Taj Mahal, and the Agra Fort. Then we traveled by car, because one of Aditya’s friends is a travel agent and hooked us up with a driver, to the Capital city of Delhi. the city was pretty happening, and there were lots of temples and parks to see. Security was increased for a lot of things because the independence day was upcoming, but we still got into plenty of places. My favorites were the planetarium and the national railway museum, but neither were well enough lit for good photos.

Touring Mumbai

I had the opportunity to see India with my friend Aditya, a former classmate from the University of Toledo. His family lives in Mumbai, so I flew in there, and we spent a few days seeing the city. At first I saw the area near where he grew up. Another day we took a bus tour of the city, the next he showed me around his former University and some areas that the tour didn’t cover. There was lot to see in do in the city itself.
